Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. If yours isn't here, email support@artbase.au.
General
What is artbase?
artbase is a social platform for sharing and discovering art. You post your work, follow artists you like, comment, and organise the pieces you love into collections. It's a place to be seen and to find good work, not a marketplace: there's no buying or selling on artbase.
Is artbase free?
Yes. Making an account and posting your work is free. There's an optional paid subscription, artbase Pro, that adds a few extra creator tools (see artbase Pro below). There's no commission on anything, because you're not selling through us.
What can I post?
Two kinds of work:
- Images - drawings, paintings, photos, digital art, and anything else that lives in a single image.
- Writing - books, chapters, stories, and prose, written in markdown.
Does artbase train AI models on my artwork or data?
No. artbase does not use your artwork, uploads, or personal data to train artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning models, and we do not sell or share your artwork or data with third parties for AI training. Your work stays yours. This commitment is set out in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Accounts
How do I create an account?
Go to artbase.au and sign up with an email address and a password. You'll pick a username and confirm your date of birth, then verify your email before you can post or comment. See the Getting started guide for the full walkthrough. artbase uses email and password sign-in; there's no "sign in with Google" or other social login.
Do I need an invite?
Sometimes. artbase runs invite-only during quieter periods. When it's invite-only, you'll need an invite code to register, and anyone can join the waitlist to be sent one when spots open. When it's open, you can sign up straight away. Members can also generate their own invite codes to bring people in.
How do I reset my password?
On the login page, choose Forgot password? and enter your email. If there's an account for that address, we'll send a reset link. It's valid for a few hours.
Can I delete my account?
You can deactivate it from Settings, under Deactivate account. That hides your profile and your work and signs you out everywhere. If the account stays deactivated for six months, it and your content are permanently removed. There's no instant hard delete: if you need your data removed sooner, email support@artbase.au.
Posting and sharing
How big can an image be, and what formats work?
Image uploads can be up to 20 MB, in PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP. GIFs stay animated.
Can I mark work as mature, or as AI-assisted?
Yes. When you upload, you can flag a piece as mature/adult content or as AI-assisted. Mature work is blurred by default and each viewer chooses whether to blur, hide, or show it. Readers under 18 always have mature work hidden.
Can I schedule posts or upload in bulk?
Both are artbase Pro features. Pro lets you queue uploads to publish later and upload many images in one batch.
Who can see my posts?
You choose per post: public (shows up in feeds and search), unlisted (only people with the link), or private (just you).
Following and finding work
How do the feeds work?
The home feed has a personalised For You feed, plus Following (the newest work from people you follow) and Trending. There's also a separate Writing page for stories and long reads. If you see something that isn't for you, "see less" nudges the For You feed away from it.
What's the difference between collections, galleries, and groups?
- Collections are your saved pieces: other people's work (and your own) that you want to keep. Liking a post saves it to your collection.
- Galleries are for sorting your own posts into named sets on your profile, like "Portraits" or "Sketches".
- Groups are communities with a shared gallery, discussions, events, and chat.
See Collections, galleries, and groups for the details.
Can I message other artists?
Yes, you can send direct messages to other members.
artbase Pro
What is Pro?
artbase Pro is an optional paid subscription that adds extra creator tools. Everything core to artbase stays free without it.
What does Pro include?
Profile themes, a username change each month, a monthly post boost to feature your work higher in feeds, scheduled posts, bulk upload, an animated GIF profile picture, a Pro badge next to your name, and unlimited private collections (the free plan allows one).
How much is it, and how do I pay?
Pro is billed monthly or yearly in Australian dollars (currently A$6.99/month or A$69.99/year). The current price is always shown on the Upgrade page. Payment is handled by Stripe; artbase never sees or stores your card details. You can change your billing cycle or cancel any time from Billing, which opens the Stripe portal.
Safety and policies
How do I report a post, comment, or profile?
Open the ⋯ menu on the item and choose Report, then pick a reason. Our team reviews reports. You'll need a verified email to submit one.
How do I report copyright infringement?
Use the copyright takedown form at artbase.au/dmca. It works even if you don't have an account. See our Copyright / DMCA policy for what a valid notice needs.
Technical
Is there a mobile app?
